Yogic Breathing

Breathing is one of the main ways of exchanging air or energy from the individual self to the external surroundings or cosmic prana.

The Self consists of 2 parts - Purusa - Our consciousness or true self

Prakriti - Matter The Self can experience every Cell in the Body. From that perspective, all Cells can breathe. There are some cells which due to function have specialised for breathing, like the Cells in the Alveoli of Lungs. But every cell in the Body internally too breathes in and breathes out air, using blood as the means of exchange.

When we do breathing with Focus, we are allowing this interaction of air in a effective manner. Also the cells expand during breathing in and contract during breathing out. Hence with regulated breathing we are gradually increasing the expansion of cells and holding air without and gradually breathing out, creating slow and systematic expansion and contraction of the cells. This approach helps us build internal awareness of all layers of our body like the skin, muscles, skeletal system, veins and tissues. Along with this at a Neural level, as we start gaining control over our breathing, we can start controlling the energy flow in the nerves, ensuring there is neither excess nor reduced flow.
